Do not Fear to Preach the Gospel

Go on, my dear brethren, preaching the gospel boldly, and be not afraid of the result, for, however little may be your strength, and though your eloquence may be as nought, yet God has promised to make his gospel the power to save, and so it shall be down to the world’s end.

This quote is from the sermon: Apostolic Exhortation by Spurgeon.

The Great Commission tells us that we are to spread the Word of God, to all the  nations. In the book of Mark, Jesus instructs the disciples in verse 16:15 to “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

At Pentecost believers received the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that the power of this indwelling presence would equip and enable us to fulfill this command to evangelize the world. He strengthens us to do His work. Spurgeon points out that our strength is little and we may not always seem to  have the words. But God has already provided the Words of truth for salvation in the Bible. And He will give us the Word to say, if only we rely not on ourselves.

“Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them.” Mark 16:20
What a glorious thing to remember that Jesus Christ will be with us always. He Says in Matthew 28:20, “And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This is a promise we can cling to when we are called to step out in faith and be a disciple for Jesus Christ. We are never alone, He is with us and through Him and His power only,  all things can be accomplished.

One does not have to be in the international mission field to be in obedience to this commandment. First instruct yourself in God’s truth so you can walk in His ways, then witness and disciple your family, friends and acquaintances. Shake the dust off your feet of those who reject Christ and then knock on the heart of the next person you meet. Plant a seed and then let a brother or sister-in-Christ, water it.
From that point on, it is the work of the Holy Spirit to save.
